Szilvásvárad (73 km)

Szilvasvarad is a tourist attraction in the Bukk mountain range and mainly known because of the Szalajka valley and the Lippizaner horses. For railway enthusiasts there is the ‘’narrow gauge forest train’’. This is a train that was built in 1932 and is the last narrow gauge train still operating in Europe. You can make a spectacular ride through the forest, where you have the longest overpass in Hungary (64m long and 20m high). It passes an old still operating foundry in Ujmassa. The train has open carriages in the summer and is closed and heated in the winter. In the summer, the train brings you into the Szalajka Valley. If you enjoy hiking, it is recommended to do the hike back (around 5 km). You will pass by the 17 metre high Fatyol waterfall, which is so clean and fresh that it is drinkable. Besides this, you will come across a trout farm, a forest museum, and a woodcutter museum. Szilvasvarad with the LIppizner is a huge attraction for horse lovers and people come from all over the world to see it. The Lipizzaner riding school also has a museum with photographs and an exhibition on carriages. In summer there is a daily show. Besides this, you could rent mountain bikes so you can explore the area and the Bukk mountains on bike.
